FAQ: Homework

Read the textbook or the on-line references
- HTML topics presented in class are not necessarily in the same order as the chapters of the textbook. However, chapter numbers are provided in the instructors' notes. Students are encouraged to use the book's Table of Contents and index for further information.

Remote use
- Students are expected to become familiar with the information on eightytwenty.com, especially the FAQ and Blue Ribbon Showcase.
- Students must test user IDs and passwords for the eightytwenty.com course pages, and for publishing to the web server.
- Students are expected to install and use an HTML editor of their choosing on their remote systems.
- Students are expected to install and use an FTP client of their choosing on their remote systems.
- Students are expected to create a draft version of a personal bio, resume, and portfolio.

Assignments

Since it is not possible to complete your creations in class, you'll need to work on them on your own time, outside of class. The web labs are not available outside of class time. You'll publish your web pages to the hosting server whenever you want. The work is not "collected" or graded. There is no due date.

Surf and use search engines. The best way to learn about the web is to use it.

Use examples in class as a guide.

Create a web site or two

Create a portfolio page

Your portfolio page is an attractive page that contains links to your bio (or maybe it is your bio), your resume, and your web sites.

Download and test software

Install and test at least one browser in addition to the one you normally use. Install and use at least one other HTML editor, graphics editor and FTP client. When one trial period ends, install and test a competitor's product. Install and test freeware products. List the products you've tested on your resume.
