FAQ: Classroom Etiquette

Food

We encourage eating in the classroom, but only if you clean up after yourself. If the closest trash container is full, please don't pile trash on top of it. Find another trash container that is not full. The rest rooms are good places to stash your trash.

Cell phones

We realize the value of you being reachable by co-workers and family while you're in class, and we know some of you need to leave your cell phones turned on. However, a few rules apply:

  • We require that all phone conversations be conducted outside of the classroom, even during breaks.
  • If you plan to leave your phone or beeper turned on, please keep it handy.
  • If you plan on not taking calls, please turn your phone or beeper off.

Email and Instant Messaging

We require that you refrain from any form of electronic correspondence while class is in session. It is a distraction to the instructor and to your classmates. However, feel free to catch up on your web-based correspondence during the breaks. Instant messaging is prohibited.
